HALLOWEEN PROJECT

HALLOWEEN 1

Halloween is a traditional celebration on 31st of October. It comes from the Celts in Ireland. They believed that the ghosts of the dead returned to the Earth that day. So, they lighted bonfires and jack-o-lanterns to keep them away.

On Halloween night, people also go to costume parties, visit haunted houses, watch horror films with friends or tell horror stories.

People decorate houses with jack- o-lanterns: pumpkins with faces and a candle inside that look scary. People put them in front of the windows.

There are funny Halloween games such as “bobbing for apples”.

HALLOWEEN FACTS


    1.     Halloween is celebrated on 31st October.
   2.   It has got Celtic origins.
   3.  The Celts celebrated  a festival called “Samhain”.
   4.  They believed that during Samhain, a door was opened from the underworld. Then, the spirits of dead people returned to our world.             
        They wore masks to scare the ghosts away.
   5.   During Samhain people put out food and drinks in front of their homes for the spirits.
   6.  Today, people  dress up as witches, vampires, ghosts, …
   7.   Children go from house to house and when the door opens, they say: “Trick or treat?”
    8.  The word “witch” means “wise woman.

   10. The colours of Halloween are black and orange. Black represents death and  orange represents autumn and life.
